ARMY CHIEF FAMILY READY TO FINALIZE DATA
LEAK, NADRA INQUIRY
ISLAMABAD: The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) is all set to finalize the inquiry to identify the culprits behind the data leak related to the family of current Army Chief General Asim Munir. The allegedly illegally obtained information was used in an attempt to block the appointment of the current army chief last November.
Multiple sources familiar with the data leak shared details with The News. In October 2022, five senior lieutenant generals contested for the post of Pakistan's new army chief. Meanwhile, Farooq Ahmed, a junior data entry operator of NADRA, allegedly accessed the data of a female family member of General Asim Munir Shah and collected the family details and identity card numbers. The data was later used in the Federal Investigation Agency's Integrated Border Management System to trace the family's international travel destinations, the prime minister said. launched an investigation to identify the source of the false claim that led authorities to illegal data access at NADRA. As a result Farooq Ahmed (Junior Executive), Rehman Butt (Deputy Director), Rasheed Ahmed (Assistant Director), Saifullah (Deputy Assistant Director), Sajid Sarwar (Assistant Superintendent) and M Ali (Deputy Assistant Director) were suspended. was given and NADRA Chairman Tariq Malik ordered an inquiry. The inquiry was initially overseen by retired Brigadier Khalid Latif, who was later found to be a close associate of Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, one of the alleged claimants. During the inquiry, two NADRA officers, Khalid Inayatullah and Ameer Bukhari, were identified as the key players in accessing the data.
