THE PRESIDENT WROTE A LETTER TO THE PRIME MINISTER FOR ELECTIONS IN PUNJAB AND KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA AT THE APPOINTED TIME


 

President Arif says that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif should instruct the relevant authorities of the federal and provincial governments to assist the Election Commission for the general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The President of the State in his letter to the Prime Minister said that the Prime Minister should direct to avoid further complications including contempt of court, federal and provincial governments should be directed to refrain from violation of human rights.


He said that in the 2021 World Press Freedom Index, Pakistan was ranked 145 out of 180 countries, this year's measures will further lower Pakistan's ranking in the index.

The President said that the Prime Minister is responsible for protecting the human and fundamental rights of every citizen

According to the text of the letter, Arif Alvi said that elections must be held within 90 days under Article 224 (2) upon the dissolution of provincial assemblies.


He said that the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was also ordered to fix the date for the provincial assembly according to the time frame.

He said that it seems that the federal and caretaker governments asked the concerned departments to show their inability to provide support.

President Arif Alvi said that it is the duty of the federal and provincial executive authorities to help the Election Commission, in my opinion, the executive authorities and government departments have openly violated the constitution.


He said that the Election Commission did not follow its announcement of holding general elections in Punjab on April 30. The Election Commission openly violated the order of the Supreme Court.

He said that the Election Commission announced the date of October 8 for the general elections of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The letter said that it is worrisome that there was no meaningful consultation with the President on behalf of the Prime Minister

The President said that the houses of political workers were raided, citizens were abducted without warrant or legal justification.

In the letter, the President also referred to various articles of the Constitution related to fundamental rights.

Arif Alvi further said that the articles of the constitution are being clearly violated, such incidents have damaged the image of Pakistan in the international community.
